Authorities looking into new information in Butler County cold case

BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS)- A grave exhumed, a case re-evaluated.  Authorities now say they are looking for new information that could solve the murder of Carla Austin, a Butler County woman killed in 1999.

Just last month, authorities made a decision to exhume Austin's body, just to see if there was anything they missed the first time around.

"Sometimes I just feel like I'll never get the truth," said Mindy Crafford, Austin's daughter.

Now, Crafford remembers her mother's disappearance through the eyes of a little girl.  She was just eight years old when her mother disappeared, and was later found dead.

"I remember hugging her neck and saying goodbye," said Crafford.  "I remember thinking I was going to see her in a few days." That was August of 1999.

Austin dropped Mindy and her sister Kristi off with an aunt in Butler County before going out for the night near Qulin.  She never came back.

MoDOT asks drivers to "rate our work zones"

MoDOT asks drivers to "rate our work zones"

(KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation is asking drivers to rate the work zones with news signs that solicit feedback.

MoDOT is looking for the public’s opinion on a variety of work zone details, including clear and understandable signing, channelizers and barrels providing proper guidance, and whether or not the work zone caused motorists any delays.

“We are placing these signs near the beginning of work zones as a way to encourage motorists to tell us what they think,” said Julie Stotlemeyer, traffic liaison engineer. “Once motorists safely reach their destinations, we want their feedback on what it was like to travel through the work zone.”

According to MoDOT, the purpose of the signs, and the work zone surveys, is to maintain an exemplary level of customer service. The department uses those survey results to evaluate work zones, look for ways to improve them and meet customer expectations.
