POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Members of the Wheatley Historical Preservation Association, Inc., will present a program and panel discussion about Poplar Bluff’s Wheatley School on Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 6:30 p.m. at Three Rivers College's Rutland Library.

Built in the Colonial Revival style in 1928, the school was Poplar Bluff’s only school for African Americans until desegregation in the 1950s. After the last high school class graduated in the spring of 1957, the school continued as a grade school and early childhood center before closing in 2001. Today it serves as a community center and houses a wealth of historical material.

Wheatley School has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1998, and recently hosted the prestigious Smithsonian traveling exhibit, "The Way We Worked." Ample time will be reserved for questions and answers.
