Local police seek AL fugitive considered "armed and dangerous"

Police are looking for 3 fugitives including an Alabama man considered "armed and dangerous."

Police say it all stems from an investigation of people passing counterfeit bills.

Darius Lankford, 28, of Huntsville, Ala. fled to Alabama to escape prosecution on other charges, and made statements that he will not be arrested, police said.

Lankford is reportedly armed with a pistol and should be considered dangerous, according to Poplar Bluff Police Lt. David Sutton.

Police say other persons wanted and  involved in printing and passing the counterfeit bills are:

  • Jessica Gross, 25, of Poplar Bluff
  • Terry Hester, 27, of Poplar Bluff
  • Darius Lankford, 28, of Huntsville, Alabama

The investigation started when complaints were coming from Poplar Bluff area merchants to police about the passing of counterfeit $10, $20 and $50 bills.

Poplar Bluff man facing theft charges

A Poplar Bluff man is facing theft charges stemming from August.

Cody Duran Mayse of Poplar Bluff is charged with tampering with motor vehicle 1st degree Felony C, times 4. He is also charged with theft-stealing of any credit card or letter of credit  Felony C.

It all stems from an incident in August were some cars were broken into outside of a Butler County church were some purses were taken.

Bond for Mayse was set at $50,000 cash or surety.

"Welcome Home" celebration at VA

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The John J. Pershing Veterans Affairs Medical Center hosted the 4th annual "Welcome Home" celebration on Sunday, October 8th.

About 500 people came out for a welcome home celebration at the VA medical center in Poplar Bluff.

Something many here say hits home as Oct. 7 marked the 10th anniversary of operation enduring freedom.

The celebration is for military veterans and their families and friends. Members of the general public are invited to come out and show their appreciation for our nation's heroes.

The day began with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. In front of the Medical Center at 1500 N. Westwood Boulevard.

Special guests and speakers will took part in the ceremony.

Officials, city leaders break ground for new Poplar Bluff medical center

Officials, city leaders break ground for new Poplar Bluff medical center

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Officials with Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center and other city leaders officially broke ground on the new facility on Thursday.

The new $173 million medical campus will be located at the corner of Oak Grove and Shelby Roads in the Eight Points development site.

Once construction is finished, the seven-story hospital will have 250 patient rooms, an emergency room, cardiac care and will also offer neurosurgery.

Small anhydrous ammonia leak near Fisk

According to the Mo. State Highway Patrol, there was a small anhydrous ammonia leak early Wednesday evening near Fisk.

Troop E officials say that a tractor trailer had a small leak, and it was not venting.

The trailer was planned to be moved to another location, according to the troop.

The leak was on Route DD just off of State Highway 60.

Rte. T to be reduced for pavement repairs

Rte. T to be reduced for pavement repairs

BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation says Route T will be reduced to one lane while crews make pavement repairs.

The road will be reduced between US 60 and County Road 569.

Weather permitting, crews will be working Thursday, Oct. 6 and Friday, Oct. 7 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
