Tickets on sale now for annual Madrigal dinner

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Three Rivers College announced Monday tickets are on sale for the Music Department's annual Madrigal Dinner Nov. 17 and 18 at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center.

The college says tickets are on sale now at the college of Business/Financial Services office and the Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce for $15. Three Rivers says there are a limited number of tickets available and they must be bought by Nov. 11.

Events include a catered dinner and a variety of musical performances by Three Rivers students, as well as guest artists.

According to Three Rivers, a madrigal dinner is a form of dinner theater held by schools and church groups, traditionally set in the Middle Ages and comedic in nature. The meal is divided into courses and each course is introduced with a traditional song. Between the courses is a play and a choral concert concludes the festivities.

Seating will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 6:30 p.m.

Three Rivers to host Halloween Safe Zone

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Three Rivers College has announced that people living in or near Poplar Bluff are invited to bring their children to trick-or-treat in a safe, fun environment at this year's Halloween Safe Zone.

The event will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Bess Activity Center. Admission is free and activities will include games, dance performances, costume contests and more.

“We’ve really amped up our activities and entertainment this year,” said Three Rivers’ Vice President for Student Success Jason Hoseney. “We’ve partnered with quite a few local businesses who will be helping us provide candy and offset other costs.

Two arrested after home invasion in Poplar Bluff

Poplar Bluff Police arrested two men after a home invasion Thursday night.

Poplar Bluff Police Chief Danny Whiteley says it happened Thursday at 8:28 p.m. in the 900 block of Maud St.

Whiteley says Eddie Holmes and Davion Thompson, both of Poplar Bluff, knocked on the door of the home, and when the owner answered, they pointed a pistol at them and forced their way inside.

He says they took at TV, Xbox360, and some cash.

The victims, Mark Hicks, Jr., and Stacy Kemp, were able to identify the suspect's car as a white Chrysler Concord.

Poplar Bluff police officers found the car parked at a home in the 2000 block of Wood St. in Bluff.

They arrested the suspects inside and were able to recover some cash, but not the other stolen property.

Holmes confessed to a Poplar Bluff detective.

The two were taken to the Butler County Justice Center awaiting formal charges.

Boil order for Lake Rd. subdivision in Butler Co.

Public Water Dist. No. 3 has issued a boil water order until further notice for Butler County Road 560, also known as Lake Road Subdivision.

Future of Poplar Bluff plastics plant uncertain

The future of the Fortis plastics plant in Poplar Bluff remains uncertain, while the company is closing another plant.

On Tuesday, Fortis employees told Heartland News they've been informed that their plant will close in three to six weeks.

Earlier Thursday, Heartland News spoke with a reporter in Fort Smith, Arkansas who says city leaders received a letter from Fortis notifying them the plastics plant there would shut down in early to mid-November.

Fortis officials still are not confirming the Fort Smith closure.

Butler County leaders say they have not received one of those letters.

MoDOT to hold briefing on Rte. PP bridge project

BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation says they will hold an open-house community briefing on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The community briefing will be about upcoming improvements to the Route PP bridge over Cane Creek in Butler County. The briefing will be held in the Schultz and Summers office, located at 4800 West Boulevard in Poplar Bluff.

"Visitors can stop-by anytime between 4 and 6 p.m. to discuss the details with a member of the project team and provide their comments," said Project Manager Eric Krapf.

MoDOT says the project will include replacing the bridge with a wider structure. As work is underway, the road will stay closed. A contract for project is expected to be awarded in December 2011.
