Event to celebrate completion of Rte. 67 upgrade

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - To celebrate the completion of the Route 67 project, the Mid-America Express event will be Friday, August 26.

The project included upgrading the route to four lanes from north of Poplar Bluff to Fredricktown in Madison County.

According to MoDOT, improving Route 67 was possible through the partnership of the Highway 67 Corporation, MoDOT and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Funding for the project came when Poplar Bluff voters passed a tax to pay for a portion of the construction, Missouri voters passed Amendment 3 and an agreement was reached with the corps.

"With the current state of transportation funding, this project is a great example of what can be accomplished when funding is made available," said MoDOT District Engineer Mark Shelton. "The citizens of Poplar Bluff and Missouri voters realized the importance of investing in infrastructure."

The event will start in Fredricktown and finish in Poplar Bluff.
