Poplar Bluff schools form committee to discuss increased enrollment plans

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS)- They are calling themselves the Citizen's Advisory Committee, 50 people from Poplar Bluff looking for a solution to the school district's increased enrollment.

Superintendent Chris Hon wants the schools to be a reflection of the community. With the number of potential students expected to increase, he wants the community to decide what needs to be done to meet their needs.

"So really what's exciting to me now is the community engagement and the excitement I see out of those involved in the process," Hon said.

This all came out after a survey was released from 400 registered voters from the district's four elementary schools. Majority of those that responded say they would support a bond issue to expand facilities.

MO Supreme Court overturned Poplar Bluff mans death sentence

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS)- The Missouri Supreme Court overturned a Poplar Bluff man's death sentence.

Terrance Anderson was found guilty in the 1997 murders of Debbie and Stephen Rainwater.

Investigators say the Rainwaters were the grandparents to Anderson's son.

He was sentenced to death in Debbie's murder and life in prison in Stephen's murder.

A Cape Girardeau judge upheld those sentences after Rainwater appealed the death sentence.

The Missouri Supreme Court ruled the judge on the case should have recused himself, so the case is sent back to circuit court for another review.
