Poplar Bluff police warn of fraud phone calls

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS)- The Poplar Bluff Police Department warns citizens after several fraud complaints about gift card winners.

The police department has recently received fraud complaints which involve a telemarketer calling the intended victim; telling them that they have won a $1,000 Wal-Mart gift card; and asking for a debit/credit card number to process a $3 banking fee.

Once the suspect has this information, he/she has full access to the victim's account.

Residents are cautioned against sharing personal information (date of birth, social security number, debit or credit card numbers, or bank account routing numbers) with an unverified third party online or on the phone.
