Award-winning storyteller comes to Tinnin Center

POPLAR BLUFF (KFVS) - Oracle Award-winning storyteller and musician Beth Horner will bring her show "The Silver Spurs" to the Tinnin Center at Three Rivers College on Thursday, April 11.

The show will start at 1 p.m. and is open to the public.

"We've worked hard to get Ms. Horner and her unique storytelling style here to Poplar Bluff," says Sherry McDonald, an Outreach Specialist for the Educational Talent Search program at Three Rivers. "It's a great honor to have a nationally known storyteller like her to perform for us, and we're sure it'll be a fun time for all ages."

'Show Me Whatcha Got' holds last audition taping session

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Local performers looking to compete in this year’s “Show Me Whatcha Got” talent show will have one last chance to get their audition performances taped, when the show holds its final audition recording session on February 9, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Tinnin Center.

Potential contestants may attend anytime from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with no appointment necessary.

During the session, competition hopefuls who are unable to submit their audition tapes online will have the opportunity to have their performances recorded for submission to the talent show’s production staff.

While this is the last recording session, “Show Me Whatcha Got” will continue to accept online submissions until Feb. 21.

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The John J. Pershing VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff has revealed that country music artist, Aaron Tippin will be the featured entertainer at next year’s Third Annual “Valentines For Veterans” Concert. 

The event will take place on Friday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m., at the Black River Coliseum in Poplar Bluff.

Tippin’s hits include ''My Blue Angel,'' ''That's As Close As I'll Get to Loving You,'' and ''I Wouldn't Have It Any Other Way.'' He boasts five certified gold albums, one platinum, and three number-one hits.

Tippin has crusaded for the working man and woman since he took country music by storm in 1990 with his uncompromising “You’ve Got to Stand for Something.”

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Poplar Bluff High School students recently won awards during the annual student art exhibition at the Hemingway-Pfeiffer Museum in Piggott, Ark.

Tina Slayton, Kelsey Dunn and Cheyenne Brown won for their sketches created in art teacher Christina Swint’s class. The students’ artwork was also displayed for a month at the Thea Foundation Gallery in North Little Rock.

Not pictured is Alex Dalton, who received an honorable mention.

Art project helps Poplar Bluff student ‘stay connected’ with her military father

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - When Poplar Bluff Junior High art teacher Mary Ivie introduces her packing tape sculpture segment each school year, students come up with all types of ideas for objects to replicate, from their own arm holding a football to an entire motorcycle.

This past semester, a seventh grader brought in something with such sentimental value that faculty members were compelled to contribute to the piece to make it extra special for the intended recipient.

Samantha Crossen decided to create a tribute for her father Scott, who is presently deployed overseas in Okinawa, Japan as a member of the U.S. Marines, by sculpting his dress blue uniform hat and boot.

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Up-and-coming singer/songwriter Rebekah Northern, the daughter of Poplar Bluff Early Childhood Center Principal JoAnne Westbrook, performed for students Dec. 21 at Lake Road Elementary School.
