AWA to host "Howling at the Moon" party | Arts & Culture
POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Animal Welfare Alliance (AWA) will host its 3rd Annual "Howling at the Moon" party Nov. 4 at the Black River Coliseum to pay tribute to agencies that rescued people and animals during the 2011 spring flood.
Poplar Bluff Police, Poplar Bluff Fire, Butler County Fire, Butler County Sheriff's Department, and Troop E of the Missouri Highway Patrol will be recognized.
The AWA operated as an animal shelter at the Black River Coliseum for more than 100 displace dog and cats during the height of the flood.
The party recognizes those who helped endangered people with pets.
Money raised at the benefit will go toward AWA programs including a fund set aside to build a no-kill animal shelter.
The AWA spends up to $650 a month for distemper and parvovirus shots for puppies in Poplar Bluff's city animal shelter and provides financial aid to help low-income pet owner get their dogs or cats spayed or neutered.
There will be a silent auction for the party which lasts from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Tickets are $25 in advance or $30 at the door and can be purchased at the Black River Coliseum, Poplar Bluff Chamber of Commerce, Key Drugs, or any member of the AWA Board of Directors.
