1,000 students expected to participate in annual dist. music festival | Arts & Culture
POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Three Rivers announces that over 1,000 high school musicians will visit this month for the annual district music festival March 13 and 24
The showcase is considered a state-level competition event. Large ensembles (bands and choirs) will perform for ratings on March 13. These groups will include 11 high school bands and 10 high school choirs.
Judges for this event are from Cape Girardeau, Farmington, Washington, Lebanon, Lilbourn, Jonesboro, Perryville, Pacific, St. Charles, Springfield and St. Louis.
“This event brings students, directors and audience members from across our area to the Three Rivers campus,” said Cindy White, instructor of vocal music at Three Rivers, who co-manages the festival with husband and fellow music instructor Buddy White. “The Three Rivers Music Festival will involve students from 28 school districts across Southeast Missouri, and this is one of 20 such events hosted in the state and sponsored by the Missouri State High School Activities Association.”
The District Music Festival will end on March 24 with solo and small ensemble performances in a district-level event. A "1" or "excellent" rating at this festival qualifies the student or small group to perform at the State Music Festival which will take place April 30 - May 1 in Columbia, Mo.
“The very best high school musicians from our area will be performing in a wide variety of groups, including concert bands, concert choirs, and small ensembles,” said White. “In addition to these groups, individual soloists will also be competing, resulting in hundreds of separate performances. We’ve been hosting this festival for over 11 years, and it brings hundreds of music students and their directors to our campus. We are excited to have the opportunity to bring the best music students in the area to Three Rivers.”
