Patrons of the Arts Society presents Dickens' classic from Marley's point of view

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Patrons of the Arts Society of Three Rivers College will present their holiday-themed show “Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” on Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. in the Tinnin Fine Arts Center.

“This is to ‘A Christmas Carol’ what ‘Wicked’ is to ‘The Wizard of Oz’,” said Dr. Wes Payne, Vice President for Learning at Three Rivers, who coordinates the Patrons shows.  “This is a version of ‘A Christmas Carol’ from the viewpoint of Scrooge’s deceased business partner, Jacob Marley.”

“Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” tells the behind-the-scenes story of Marley’s attempt to save Scrooge’s soul, as well as his own. The story takes the audience along with Marley’s ghost from the streets of London through the afterlife and beyond.

BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - Three Rivers College President Dr. Devin Stephenson announced the release of his newest fundraising CD.

"The Promise" is a gospel album featuring Stephenson on piano and keyboards. It will be on sale at college facilities and events for $15. Proceeds from the album sales will be added to the profits from last year's sale of "The Gift" as part of a scholarship fund for Three Rivers students, which Stephenson hopes to endow this coming year.

“I chose to do a gospel music and hymn project at the request of a number of citizens here in Southeast Missouri,” said Stephenson, who began work on “The Promise” in spring of 2011.  “Music of faith and hope is extremely popular and meaningful in our society, and people find solace and comfort in this genre of music.”

Stephenson says his goal is to raise $10,000 for the scholarship.
