100-Mile Yard Sale weekend

100-Mile Yard Sale weekend

(KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation is reminding everyone that visitors and residents will be out in full force along Route 25 Memorial Day weekend in search of bargains at the 100-Mile Yard Sale.

The Dexter Chamber of Commerce said the yard sale will stretch from Jackson to Kennett, Mo. You may already see some things set up, but the official event will be Thursday, May 23 through Monday, May 27.

"It's a fun weekend that people look forward to each year," said Traffic Engineer Craig Compas, "but we want people to remember that there's more traffic and more congestion along Route 25 this weekend than any other and drivers need to keep that in mind."

MoDOT will do its part to bring the safety message to the forefront.  Message boards will be in place along the route to alert drivers of the unusual traffic patterns and promote safe driving.

State Treasurer Clint Zweifel returns unclaimed property, including to Southeast Mo.

(KFVS) - State Treasurer Clint Zweifel announced today he has reached an important milestone, returning Unclaimed Property to more than 500,000 accounts since January 2009.

This is the most returned under any State Treasurer since Unclaimed Property became part of the office in 1993.

“Part of my job is to make Unclaimed Property as easy to return to the people who own it as I possibly can,” Treasurer Zweifel said. “By cutting red tape, reducing bureaucracy and modernizing the process, I have returned more than $155 million to more than 500,000 tax payers and cut wait times in half. This is money I hold in trust for tax payers, money people can use to pay bills, buy groceries or even take an unexpected vacation. I hold more than $750 million in Unclaimed Property for more than 4.4 million account owners and will continue to do all I can to reunite this money with the individuals to whom it belongs.”
