1st Annual Health Expo on Aug. 25

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Greater Poplar Bluff Area Chamber of Commerce and Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center have announced their 1st Annual Health Expo will be Saturday, August 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event will be in the Three Rivers College Bess Activity Center and the cost to attend is $1 for adults and children 12 and under are free.

The expo will offer free health screenings, information from local health providers and a kids zone sponsored by the Boys & Girls Club of Poplar Bluff. There will also be health panel discussions to answer your questions about heart health, cancer, senior health and women's health, along with a healthy cooking kitchen.

Wheels for Winners Raffle raises money for Special Olympics Missouri

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - Supporters throughout the state are raising money for Special Olympics Missouri through the annual Wheels for Winners Raffle.

Missouri law enforcement officers and Special Olympics Missouri are offering tickets for a chance to win a new Ford Mustang Convertible. The car was donated by the Missouri Automobile Dealers Association, with 100 percent of the proceeds going directly to support Special Olympics Missouri programs.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO (KFVS) - The Southeast Missouri Food Bank received a donation of $5,500 from Coad Toyota and the Coad Family Dealerships.

The food bank says this gift includes a matching donation from Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A.

"Southeast Missouri Food Bank is grateful to have the continued support of Coad Toyota and the Coad Family of Dealerships," said Karen Green, executive director of Southeast Missouri Food Bank. "Thanks to generous friends like Coad Toyota the Food Bank is able to reach out to the 64,000 Southeast Missourians who do not know where their next meal will come from."

Over 170 nonprofit hunger relief agencies in 16 counties of Southeast Missouri benefit from the Southeast Missouri Food Bank. These counties include: Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Dunklin, Madison, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Perry, Reynolds, Ripley, Scott, Ste. Genevieve, Stoddard and Wayne.

Vietnam Veterans of America donates to Homeless Veterans Fund

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #1056 recently made a donation to the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center Homeless Veterans Fund.

According to the medical center, the donation is specifically designated to help keep homeless families together. They say while funding exists to provide housing for homeless Veterans, it may not cover their families. Vietnam Veterans of America wants to help address that need.

Motorcycle poker run raised money for VA Medical Center

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Bluff City Eagles Riders and Eagles Auxiliary, Post 3730, recently made several donations to the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center.

The Riders held a motorcycle poker run on July 8, and proceeds were donated to the medical center’s Welcome Home, POW/MIA, Wall of Valor, and Care and Share programs.

According to the VA, approximately 40 motorcycle riders participated in the ride. The riders set off from the medical center, made five stops in the local area and ended up at the Eagles Lodge on South Broadway.

Presenting the checks are James “Turk” Hastings, Commander, and LaDeanna Glen, Past Madam President, to Acting Chief of Voluntary Service Donna Reynolds (center).

Poplar Bluff church presents Neighborhood Bible Time

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Westwood Baptist Church is presenting Neighborhood Bible Time July 23-27.

First through sixth grade students will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and activities for junior and senior high students will be held each evening from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The church is located at 419 CR 5231, across the highway from Larry Hillis Dodge on Highway 67 North.
