Cyber scam plays on fears online

BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS)- "I have received approximately five calls from people in this area who have been affected by this Reveton drive-by malware," said Detective Scott Phelps with the Southeast Crime Task Force.

That means you don't have to click anything. Simply, visiting a site that's infected will infect your computer.

"This scam pretends to be the FBI," Phelps said. "It plays off their fears too. They think they caught me. I better pay this to stay out of trouble."

Phelps says this is not the way FBI contacts me though.

"The FBI does not contact people through an email or when you visit a website," Phelps said. "If the FBI wants to talk to you, they'll come to your door."
