BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - A local business, non-profit organization and government agency are among those named award winners at the 2012 International Boating and Water Safety Summit held in San Diego, Calif., for their water and boating safety efforts.
The awards were announced on March 5 during a special luncheon held by the National Water Safety Congress.
The Ozark Border Electric Cooperative in Poplar Bluff received an Award of Merit for their emergency assistance during the Great Regional Flood of 2011. OBEC worked tirelessly contacting individuals located downstream who may have been potentially affected by flood waters in Missouri and Arkansas. The Regional Vice Presidents of the National Water Safety Congress chose nominees who made a significant contribution or outstanding effort to enhance or promote water safety at the local or state level.
The SEMO Regional Water Safety Council and the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake were also Region IV winners of a Letter of Commendation. This award is given to recognize councils, organizations, programs, activities, or individuals who have made significant or outstanding accomplishments in promoting water safety and deserve special recognition by a national organization such as the National Water Safety Congress.
