Highway Patrol urges caution for Thanksgiving weekend | Events

(KFVS) - With Thanksgiving coming up, the Missouri State Highway Patrol wants to remind drivers that there will be lots of extra traffic for the holiday and urges drivers to be cautious.

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, the Patrol will participate in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort). As part of the operation, all available officers will be assigned to Missouri roadways to enforce traffic laws, especially drunk driving laws, speeding and seat belt use. Troopers will also be assisting drivers in need.

"It's important that everyone arrive at their Thanksgiving destination safely," said Colonel Ron Replogle, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. "Please obey all traffic laws, wear your seat belt and pay attention to the job of driving. That text or cell phone call can wait. If alcohol is part of your plan, don't drink and drive."

The Highway Patrol says traffic patterns will be changing which will mean everyone needs to be courteous and safe. Drivers should also be sure their cars are in good condition, be well rested before driving, and be sure everyone in the vehicle is wearing a seat belt.

The Highway Patrol's Emergency Assistance number is 1-800-525-5555 or *55 on a cell phone. Drivers are asked to use this number to report traffic crashes, crimes being committed or other emergencies on Missouri's highways.
