POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff recognized 45 students at its annual Student Excellence Awards ceremony on Friday, May 10.

According to the college, winners were chosen to represent each academic department and career education program, the Three Rivers Centers, honor society students and major student organizations.

“We have an amazing number of world-class students here at Three Rivers, and the Student Excellence Awards give us the opportunity to make sure that they get recognized,” said Dr. Devin Stephenson. “I think it’s a testament to the dedication of our students, and the hard work of our faculty and staff, that we have such a stellar, diverse roster of award winners this year.”

To be eligible to receive an Academic Excellence Award, the college says a student must have completed at least 15 credit hours and have a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Three Rivers Honors Society inducts record number of new members

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Sigma Rho chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society welcomed over 70 inductees into its ranks this spring, during a ceremony held May 9 in the Tinnin Fine Arts Center.

The Spring 2013 class of new members is the largest such group that the Sigma Rho chapter has had since its founding at Three Rivers College in 1968.

“We’re so proud to have such a large class of new members, and all of them are simply outstanding,” said Dr. Carol Swain Lewis, Instructor of English at Three Rivers and co-faculty advisor for the Sigma Rho chapter alongside Dr. Mairead Ryan-Anderson. “So many people think of two-year colleges as simply developmental, but we also have a large number of high-caliber scholars. Phi Theta Kappa helps recognize those scholars, and gives them even better opportunities for personal and academic development.”
