POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The 10th Annual Santa Land at the Black River Coliseum will be Tuesday, Dec. 6 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The free event will include pictures with Santa, games, story time with Mrs. Claus, a live nativity scene and more.

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Westwood Baptist Church will present a musical/play on December 4 at 6 p.m.

The play, "A Different Kind of Baby," will be during the evening service.

The church is located on 67 North across from the Larry Hillis Dodge on the east outer road.

Patrons of the Arts Society presents Dickens' classic from Marley's point of view

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Patrons of the Arts Society of Three Rivers College will present their holiday-themed show “Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” on Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. in the Tinnin Fine Arts Center.

 

“This is to ‘A Christmas Carol’ what ‘Wicked’ is to ‘The Wizard of Oz’,” said Dr. Wes Payne, Vice President for Learning at Three Rivers, who coordinates the Patrons shows.  “This is a version of ‘A Christmas Carol’ from the viewpoint of Scrooge’s deceased business partner, Jacob Marley.”

“Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” tells the behind-the-scenes story of Marley’s attempt to save Scrooge’s soul, as well as his own. The story takes the audience along with Marley’s ghost from the streets of London through the afterlife and beyond.

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The American Red Cross announced their December blood drives.

The blood drive in Poplar Bluff will be on December 19 at the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Local college to host Civil War themed concert

Local college to host Civil War themed concert

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Three Rivers College's music department will host a Civil War themed concert.

The concert will take place on Tuesday, December 6th at the Tinnin Fine Arts Center. It will feature the Three Rivers College Symphonic Band, Collegiate Choir, the Heartland Winds and Percussion Ensemble, and high school choir students from the surrounding area. The concert is free.

According to Three Rivers music instructor Buddy White, the concert is intended to be a tribute to the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. It will include music to commemorate the anniversary.

Musical selections include: "The Blue and the Gray" by Claire Grundman, "Washington Grays" by Claudio S. Grafulla, "American Civil War Fantasy," by Jerry H. Bilik, and "Lincoln Portrait" by Aaron Copeland.

World AIDS Day ceremony at courthouse

BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - A candlelight ceremony on Dec. 1 at 6 p.m. will acknowledge those living with and lost to HIV worldwide.

The ceremony will be at the Butler County Courthouse and everyone is welcome.

It is sponsored by the Butler County Health Department, Holy Cross Episcopal Church and Mt. Calvary Power House Church of God.
