Children's advocate to speak at Three Rivers commencement

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Distinguished activist, author and politician Mark Kennedy Shriver will deliver the commencement address at the 2013 graduation ceremonies for Three Rivers College, the college announced Monday, March 25.

 

“I want the college and its students to be affiliated with impactful personalities,” said college president Dr. Devin Stephenson. “I look for a person who can inspire and motivate our graduates. Mr. Shriver has dedicated his life to helping those most in need, regardless of the obstacles to that goal, and I think that dedication will make a real impression on our students.”

Commencement will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 at the Black River Coliseum in Poplar Bluff. The ceremony will be a free event open to the community.

Rock International Ministeries to present men's conference April 18-20

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Rock International Ministries presents the 6th Annual "Men United for one Cause" men's conference April 18 through 20.

The event will be at 204 South Union Avenue in Jackson, Mo. 63755. The conference will kick off with guest speaker Apostle C.D. Nesbitt of the Glory Center International in Champaign, Ill.

Evangelist Shane Perry of Port Street Lucie, Fla. will be preaching the word on Friday night, April 19 at 7 p.m.

Other speakers featured in this conference will be Apostle Adrian Taylor of Lighthouse Breakthrough International Ministries in Cape Girardeau, Mo., Dr. Charles Wallace of Jackson, Ten., and Pastor Timothy Lee of Apostolic Promise Church in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

There is no registration required and discount hotels are available at your request.

MoDOT hosting 'On the Move' transportation listening session March 21

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation wants to hear from the public about "On the Move," a long-range transportation plan.

MoDOT is participating in listening sessions, a mobile tour and virtual forums over the next several months.

As part of the effort, Tiffany Jenkins, director of marketing and public relations at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, will host a listening session from 5- 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 21.

The session will be held at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center (Classroom 3), located at 3100 Oak Grove Road in Poplar Bluff.

Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 5 p.m. The event is open to the public.

Due to limited seating, those attending are being asked to reserve a seat by emailing onthemove@modot.mo.gov or visiting http://www.missourionthemove.org/ by noon Wednesday, March 20.

Poplar Bluff college gets tough with active shooter training

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Jake Baer, Campus Safety Officer from Three Rivers College, trains in school-shooter defense techniques with Rodney Barnes of Xiphos Training Group on Saturday, March 9.

Barnes instructed the school's Campus Safety department in planning and tactics in the eventuality of a school shooting incident like that at Virginia Tech. Barnes is also a Lieutenant in the Jackson Police Department, with extensive experience in active-shooter tactics.

The active-shooter training is part of Three Rivers' ongoing commitment to campus safety and security.
