Three Rivers Endowment Trust announces new scholarship

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Three Rivers Endowment Trust recently announced the creation of the Florina Carlstrom Memorial Scholarship for nursing and healthcare students at Three Rivers College.

The scholarship, which has been created through a donation from Carlstrom’s estate, will help fund the tuition of students in the Nursing and Allied Health Programs offered by Three Rivers College. The scholarship will be offered to participants in those programs who graduated from Malden High School or were students in Dunklin County schools.

Carlstrom had a long history in Southeast Missouri Healthcare, beginning with her marriage to Dr. Graydon Carlstrom in the 1930s. She worked as his nurse, office assistant and bookkeeper until his death in 1959, after which she attended the nursing program in Poplar Bluff. After obtaining her LPN certification, she spent the rest of her career working in Southeast Missouri’s healthcare industry. She served on the State Board of Nursing and participated in the Missouri State Ombudsman program. She died in Malden on September 7, 1996.

Students interested in applying for the scholarship should contact Three Rivers’ Financial Aid office at 573-840-9606, or the counselor’s office in Malden High School at 573-276-5794.

The Three Rivers Endowment Trust is a 501(c)(3) organization that receives and manages donations on behalf of Three Rivers College. The Endowment Trust provides a mutually beneficial means for individuals and businesses to partner with the college.

For information on donating to scholarships, building projects or other college needs, contact Endowment Trust Executive Director Emily Parks at 573-840-9077.
