POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS)- A Poplar Bluff man now faces second-degree murder charges for allegedly beating his father to death with a baseball bat.

Matthew Jenkins, 27, is accused of beating his parents with an aluminum bat inside their Butler County home on Jan. 15.

Jenkins had originally been charged with two-counts of first-degree assault and armed criminal action.

Prosecutors reportedly upgraded those charges when relatives decided to remove Jenkins' 56-year-old father, Don Jenkins, from life support.

Investigators say Jenkins confessed to the crime and says it all started with an argument.

Jenkins reportedly tried to give his parents first aid and then called 911.
