1 injured in crash with school bus in Poplar Bluff

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS)- One person was injured in a crash with a school bus Tuesday afternoon in Poplar Bluff.

Poplar Bluff police say a school bus and another vehicle crashed at the intersection of PP Highway and Shelby Road.

There were no children on the bus, only the bus driver and another adult.

A person from the other vehicle was taken to the hospital. No word on that person's injuries.

Police are still investigating the crash.

'Rural Missouri' magazine announces annual Readers' Choice awards

(KFVS) - For the 12th consecutive year, the readers of "Rural Missouri" magazine have selected their statewide favorites in the publication's annual Best of Rural Missouri Readers' Choice Contest.

Last year, readers overwhelmingly approved the return of a statewide format for the contest that asks them to name their favorite eateries, destinations and activities. For this year's edition of the contest, the format remained the same. "Rural Missouri's" editors had the task of tabulating entries from readers who offered their picks in 20 categories, ranging from "Best Restaurant" and "Best Burger" to "Best Small-town Museum" and "Best Theater." A winner, runner-up and editor's choice were named in each category.

Rte. 67 to be reduced for drainage repairs

BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation says Route 67 will be reduced to one lane while crews make drainage repairs.

This section of road begins at Route 142 and extends north one-half mile.

Weather permitting, crews will be working Wednesday, March 27 from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

MoDOT says the work zone will be marked with signs. Drivers are urged to use extreme caution while in the area.

School issues statement on former Poplar Bluff coach

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS)- Poplar Bluff Public Schools released a statement Monday, March 25 regarding their one time athletic director, Jim Brown.

Brown was currently serving as a physical education teacher when he was put on leave last October after allegations of misconduct. He was terminated in January of this year.

Heartland News spoke to friends in touch with Brown. He says he's not ready to speak out yet but feels the Department of Social Services took a wrong, and made it right. Now he says that's what the school board needs to do.

Monday, a spokesperson for poplar bluff public schools told Heartland News they are aware a DSS investigation looked into allegations of abuse and misconduct against Brown and did not find enough evidence to substantiate further action.

TRC to help SRG Global retain 350 jobs

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Officials at Three Rivers College say the school has finalized an agreement with SRG Global in Portageville for training that will allow SRG to retain 350 jobs.

According to the college, the agreement is part of Missouri’s “Job Retention Training Program,” designed to help keep and develop jobs in Missouri through workforce education.

Three Rivers will provide the majority of the training and is expected to provide administrative support to SRG Global through its Career Training & Workforce Development division.

“This agreement is just one example of the way Three Rivers has been building partnerships to improve the lives of people in Southeast Missouri,” said Dr. Devin Stephenson, President of Three Rivers College. “We believe that by taking a proactive role in workforce development, we can prepare our region to thrive in the economy of the future.”

MoDOT to hold transportation listening session in Poplar Bluff

 

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Missouri Department of Transportation has initiated a statewide engagement effort called "On the Move" to update Missouri's long-range transportation plan.

MoDOT is seeking direction from Missourians regarding transportation priorities across the state through a series of listening sessions, a mobile tour and virtual forums over the next several months.

As part of the effort, Tiffany Jenkins, director of marketing and public relations at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center, will host a listening session from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 21. The session will be held at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center (Classroom 3), located at 3100 Oak Grove Road in Poplar Bluff.

Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m., with the program beginning at 5 p.m.

The event is open to the public.

(KFVS) - The Ameren Missouri Sioux Energy Center in St. Louis announced their female peregrine falcon, SiouxZee laid her first egg on Tuesday, March 19.

The energy center is offering a "Falcon Watch" camera. You can click here to watch the peregrine falcons from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

You can also participate in a contest to help name their male peregrine falcon.
