Poplar Bluff H.S. graduate awarded $1,000 scholarship

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - A graduate of Poplar Bluff High School has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the Designing Women Foundation.

Lyndy Foust, 18, is the daughter of Dave and Krissy Foust of Poplar Bluff, was among the top 30 graduates in her high school class and was editor in chief of the school newspaper, "The Bluffer." She has also done volunteer work for the Children Concern Center.

Foust is a freshman at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Okla., where she is studying early childhood education and teaching English as a second language.

The Designing Women Foundation is a registered nonprofit organization dedicated to cultural and educational enrichment of youth and women. It promotes literacy and provides scholarships to the financially disadvantaged, regardless of age, race or religion.

Foundation grants Sierra-Osage scholarships to 5 young women

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Designing Women Foundation and two private donors recently granted college scholarships to five young women who were graduated last week from the Sierra-Osage Treatment Center.

The five were among about 80 graduates from Sierra-Osage and five other regional programs including the Sears Youth Center, all of them operated by the Missouri Division of Youth Services to counsel and train troubled young people referred by the court system. According to DWF, the graduates earned either a high school diploma or GED high school equivalency certificate.

The five scholarships were funded jointly by DWF, Bradley Minton of Dexter and Dr. Donna Almond of Wappapello. They recipients include:

Vietnam Veterans of America donates to Homeless Veterans Fund

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - The Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter #1056 recently made a donation to the John J. Pershing VA Medical Center Homeless Veterans Fund.

According to the medical center, the donation is specifically designated to help keep homeless families together. They say while funding exists to provide housing for homeless Veterans, it may not cover their families. Vietnam Veterans of America wants to help address that need.

Three Rivers, Univ. of Missouri now 'Partners in Education'

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Three Rivers College and the University of Missouri in Columbia signed six new transfer agreements on Tuesday, July 31, during a ceremony held at Three Rivers’ main campus in Poplar Bluff.

Three Rivers says this new partnership will allow their students with associate degrees in several different fields to transfer seamlessly into corresponding bachelor degree programs at MU.

“The transfer agreements being signed today mark the first formal partnerships between MU and Three Rivers College that acknowledge a 2+2 agreement,” said MU Provost Dr. Brian Foster, referring to the two years of community college credit and two final years at the University of Missouri to complete a four-year degree. Foster described the Three Rivers and MU programs as “stackable” and the Partners in Education agreement as providing “seamless transitions from one higher education sector to the next.”

Three Rivers hires new Dean for Career and Workforce Training

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Three Rivers College has announced their new interim Dean for Career Education and Workforce Development overseeing career and technical programs and workforce training.

Richard McGill has been named the new interim Dean.

“I’m excited and honored to have the opportunity to serve in this role,” said McGill. “This is a field that’s familiar to me, but there’s still a lot for me to learn. Luckily, there is a great staff in place to assist with the transition.  There are a lot of great things that (retiring Director of Workforce Development) Bud Joyner and the other division chairs did with the technical programs, and I just want to build upon the success Three Rivers has already had.”

Doniphan graduate receives livestock producers grant

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - A 2012 Doniphan High School graduate has been awarded a $250 study grant from the Ripley County Livestock Producers Association.

Tyler Eveland, 18, is the son of Joe and Jennifer Eveland, of Doniphan, and ranked tenth in his graduating class. He has applied to Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff, where he plans to study computer network administration.

The financial award, administered by the Three Rivers Community College Foundation, comes from a fund established in 2002 by the Livestock Producers Association to help graduates of Doniphan and Naylor High Schools who plan careers in agriculture, computer technology or healthcare.

Three Rivers College appoints new dean

Three Rivers College appoints new dean

POPLAR BLUFF, MO (KFVS) - Three Rivers College appointed Dr. Mary Lou Brown as the Dean of Academic Instruction.

The Dean of Academic Instruction, which oversees the administration of academic curriculum, is one of the two new instructional divisions that were created.  

The new positions will elimate the three divisions of Humanites and Social Science; Health and Human Services; and Business, Education, Mathematics, Science, and Technology.

Three Rivers is currently searching for someone to fill the other instructional division of the Dean of Career Education and Workforce Development. The second division will oversee the workforce development functions and career education for the college.

Brown served as the former division chair for Business, Math, Education, Science and Technology at Three Rivers. Brown has been employeed by Three Rivers since 1988.
