BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - The Designing Women Foundation has awarded $1,000 Brenda Barker Memorial Scholarships to two women preparing for careers in cosmetology.
Rhonda Grogan, 36, of Doniphan, Mo., received one of the $1,000 scholarships. The mother of four is a student at Black River Beauty Academy in Poplar Bluff.
Scout Davis, 19, of Walnut Ridge, Ark., received the second $1,000 scholarship. Davis is a student at Blackwood Beauty School in Pocahontas, Ark.
The Brenda Barker Memorial Scholarship was established in 2006 in memory of the late Brenda Bloodworth Barker. It is funded by the Bloodworth family and administered by the Designing Women Foundation.
Brenda Barker was a lifelong resident of Butler County and practiced cosmetology for almost 30 years before retiring.
