Sales tax holiday April 19-25 on qualifying appliances

Sales tax holiday April 19-25 on qualifying appliances

(KFVS) - The 2013 Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday would be a good time to replace your old, energy-hogging appliances.

During the seven-day period of April 19-25, you can buy a qualifying Energy Star refrigerator, clothes washer, water heaters, etc., and skip the state sales tax (up to $1,500 per appliance). It’s also another good reason to shop locally, as some cities including Perryville, Jackson and Ste. Genevieve are also waiving the city sales tax.

Qualifying appliances include the following:

  • Clothes washers
  • Heat pump water heaters
  • Dishwashers
  • Air conditioners
  • Furnaces
  • Heat pumps
  • Refrigerators
  • Freezers

Local, small business Black Friday sales

Local, small business Black Friday sales

With the holidays coming up fast, Black Friday will be here before we know it.

Every year we hear about the craziness at big name stores like Walmart, Target, etc. As a change of pace, we want to hear from local, small businesses and others in the community!

Will you be having any Black Friday sales or deals? If so, what are they? What are some tips you can give to people in your community wanting to shop more "local?"

If you're a local restaurant, will you have different hours and specials to cater to the Black Friday shoppers?

Is anyone in the community: churches, community centers, etc. offering babysitting for those that will be out in the early a.m. for shopping?

You can e-mail Amber Ruch, County News Web Producer at aruch@kfvs12.com. The information you provide will be featured online and on-air. Make sure to include a picture or two of your business!

Treasurer Zweifel reminds Missourians to keep expired gift cards, certificates

Treasurer Zweifel reminds Missourians to keep expired gift cards, certificates

BUTLER COUNTY, MO (KFVS) - State Treasurer Clint Zweifel is reminding Missourians to keep track of expired gift cards and certificates because they could be unclaimed property.

Zweifel says this year alone, he has returned $130,000 worth of gift cards and certificates to Missouri residents, and he says there is $5.8 million waiting to be claimed.

“By law the remaining value on gift cards and certificates is turned over to me after five years," said Zweifel. "It is essential Missourians keep track the cards and certificates because even if they are expired they may be able to get their money from my Unclaimed Property team. The average claim right now is $300, and that is money that I think any family would like to have to pay for holiday gifts, utility bills and travel.”
